VAT and GST Store Setup

Tax settings for the countries you sell to, so shoppers see the price they expect and invoices show the tax charged.

Selling from one store into the UK, the EU, Australia or the Gulf means charging the right VAT or GST in each place. VAT and GST Store Setup adds those settings to your store build for up to 10 countries or regions. Your accountant confirms the rates and rules. We set them up, adjust price display and invoices, and test an order for each market.

  • Tax rates for up to 10 countries or regions
  • Tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive prices set by market
  • Invoices showing your tax numbers and the tax charged

What it is

VAT and GST Store Setup adds cross-border tax settings to a Shopify, WooCommerce or Store Migration build from Upmark Labs. We set tax rates for up to 10 countries or regions, such as the UK, EU, Australia and the Gulf, exactly as your accountant confirms them. Prices, tax number fields and invoices are set, then tested with orders.

Why businesses buy it

Cross-border tax is easy to get half right. A UK shopper sees a price without VAT, then a higher total at checkout. A business buyer in the EU cannot enter a tax number. An invoice leaves out the tax charged. Each slip costs trust or creates work for your accountant. This add-on puts the rules your accountant confirms into the store itself. Prices display the way buyers in each market expect, and invoices carry the right details. A test order checks every market before launch. We do not give tax advice, so the decisions stay with your accountant.

Problems this solves

Shoppers in some markets see a price that jumps at checkout

Prices are set to show tax included or excluded by market. Buyers in the UK, the EU and Australia see the totals they expect from the product page onward.

Business buyers cannot add their tax number

Where your accountant asks, a tax number field is added for business buyers. The invoice template shows your registration numbers and the tax charged.

Tax rules set by guesswork create work for your accountant

Rates come only from your accountant's written instructions. A test order for every market checks that the store charges what they confirmed.

A good fit if

You sell, or plan to sell, to customers in the UK, the EU, Australia or the Gulf.
Your accountant has confirmed where you are registered and which rates apply.
Buyers in some of your markets expect prices that already include tax.
You are buying Shopify Store Build, WooCommerce Store Build or Store Migration from us.

Not the right fit if

You also want shoppers to see and pay in their own currency. Add Multi-Currency Store Setup alongside this.
You are launching a new Shopify store for several countries at once. See the Global Store Launch Bundle, which includes this add-on.
You need each country to show up properly in search. See International SEO Setup.
Your store needs a second language for a new market. See Extra Language.

How it works

  1. At intake you share store admin access, your tax registration numbers and the rates and rules your accountant has confirmed for each market.
  2. We set the tax rates for up to 10 countries or regions in your store's own tax settings.
  3. Prices are set to show tax included or excluded by market, and tax number fields are added for business buyers where your accountant asks.
  4. The invoice template is updated to show your tax numbers and the tax charged on each order.
  5. A test order is placed for every market and checked against your accountant's figures. One revision round follows, then you get short setup notes.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • Store admin access by invite or a key you control, shared with the parent build.
  • Your tax registration numbers for each country where you are registered.
  • The rates and rules for each market, in writing from your accountant.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

What you receive at handover

  • Tax settings for up to 10 countries or regions
  • Tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive price display by market
  • Tax number fields for business buyers where your accountant asks
  • An invoice template showing tax details
  • A test order checked for each market

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Helps shoppers in each market see a price they trust
  • Gives your accountant invoices with the details they asked for
Checkout completion by country
Compare completed checkouts by country in your store analytics before and after launch.
Tax questions from customers
Count support emails about tax or unexpected totals each month.
Invoice corrections
Track how many invoices your accountant asks you to correct each quarter.

Before you start: Note current checkout completion by country, and how often tax questions or invoice fixes come up today.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

There are no running costs unless you choose a paid tax app, billed by its maker. The setup uses your store's own tax settings. If your accountant later suggests a tax app, that choice and its fees are yours.

Custom requirements

Add a note at checkout if you need something specific. If it fits within the Scope Card it is simply included. If it goes beyond it, you get a written Change Quote within two working days, and that work starts only once you accept it, with its time added to your delivery date.

Keep it running

Tax rates and rules change, and your accountant is the one who tells you when. On WooCommerce Store Build, webcare24, our WordPress care brand, looks after the store after the support period. On Shopify Store Build and Store Migration, the optional monthly maintenance covers it. The setup notes also show your team where each setting lives.

Questions about this product

Can you tell us which VAT or GST rates our store should charge?

No. We do not give tax advice, register you for tax or file returns. Your accountant confirms where you are registered, which rates apply and how prices should show. We then put exactly those rules into your store and test them. If anything in the instructions is unclear, we ask your accountant through you before setting it.

How many countries does the VAT and GST setup cover?

Up to 10 countries or regions. That could be the UK, several EU countries, Australia and Gulf markets such as the UAE or Saudi Arabia, depending on where you sell. Each one is set up and checked with a test order. If you sell to more than 10, note it at checkout and we send a written Change Quote.

Can UK and EU shoppers see prices with VAT included while US buyers see them without?

Yes, where your platform supports it. Shoppers in the UK, the EU and Australia usually expect prices that already include tax, while US buyers are used to tax added at checkout. We set tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive display by market, following your accountant's instructions, and check each one with a test order.

Will our store invoices show our VAT or GST registration number?

Yes. The invoice template is updated to show your tax registration numbers and the tax charged on each order. Where your accountant asks, a field is added at checkout for business buyers to enter their own tax number. Exactly which details an invoice must carry is a question for your accountant, and we follow their list.

Do we need a paid tax app to sell across borders?

Not always. This add-on uses your store's own tax settings, so there are no running costs unless you choose a paid tax app. Setting up paid tax automation services is outside this add-on. If your accountant recommends one, you buy it directly from its maker, and its setup can be quoted through a Change Quote.

What happens when a VAT or GST rate changes after our store launches?

Your accountant tells you, and the rate is updated in the store's tax settings. The setup notes show where each rate lives, so your team can change it. On WooCommerce stores, webcare24, our WordPress care brand, can handle it. On Shopify stores, the optional Upmark monthly maintenance can make the change for you.

Is this different from the tax settings in Shopify Store Build?

Yes. A store build sets the tax rules you give us for a standard launch. This add-on extends that to up to 10 countries or regions, with price display set by market, tax number fields for business buyers, an invoice template showing tax, and a test order for each market. It is added to the same order as your build.

Charge the right tax in every market you serve.

Add VAT and GST Store Setup and launch with tax rates, price display and invoices set for up to 10 countries, exactly as your accountant confirms.
