Cookie Consent and Privacy Setup

A consent banner that really holds tags back until visitors agree, with notice drafts ready for your lawyer to approve.

Many cookie banners only look the part, while analytics and ad tags fire before anyone clicks. Cookie Consent and Privacy Setup adds a banner that holds back non-essential tags until visitors agree. We scan your cookies and set up Google Consent Mode v2 for GA4, Google Ads and Meta tags. You also get privacy and cookie notice drafts for your lawyer to approve, with regional settings for your visitors.

What it is

Cookie Consent and Privacy Setup adds a cookie consent banner to a website or store build from Upmark Labs. We scan your cookies, set regional banner settings, and connect Google Consent Mode v2 for GA4, Google Ads and Meta tags. You get privacy and cookie notice drafts for your lawyer to approve, and a test report.

Why businesses buy it

A banner that appears but changes nothing gives you a false sense of safety. Tags still load, and visitors' choices are ignored. This add-on connects the banner to your tags, so non-essential ones wait for consent. Settings can differ by region for visitors in the UK, the EU, US states with privacy laws, Australia and the Gulf. A test report shows tags held back before consent in each region setting. We do not give legal advice. The notices are drafts from your questionnaire answers, and your lawyer decides what they must say.

Problems this solves

Your banner shows up, but tags fire before anyone clicks

We connect the banner to your tags, so non-essential ones wait for consent. A test report shows what fires before and after consent.

Google tags ignore what visitors choose

Google Consent Mode v2 is set up for GA4 and Google Ads, and the Meta tag is connected too. Each tag follows the visitor's choice.

You do not know which cookies your site sets

A cookie scan lists the cookies on your site. That list feeds your cookie notice draft.

Your privacy notice is missing or years out of date

We draft privacy and cookie notices from your questionnaire answers and add a route for privacy requests. Your lawyer approves the final wording.

A good fit if

Your website serves visitors in the UK, the EU, US states with privacy laws, Australia or the Gulf.
You run GA4, Google Ads or Meta tags and want them to respect each visitor's choice.
You have a lawyer or privacy adviser who can review and approve the notice drafts.
You are ordering a website or store build from us that offers this add-on.

Not the right fit if

Your site has no analytics or ad tags set up yet. Add the Tracking and Analytics Add-on so tracking and consent are built together.
You want your site reviewed for accessibility rather than privacy. See Accessibility Audit and Fixes.
Your current site is staying as it is, with no build from us. This add-on comes with a build such as Website Redesign; otherwise note your site at checkout for a Change Quote.
You need more than one website or more than 3 tags covered. Note it at checkout for a Change Quote.

How it works

  1. At intake you share website and Tag Manager access, answer our short data questionnaire and tell us where your visitors come from.
  2. We scan your site for cookies and build the cookie list your notice needs.
  3. A consent banner is set up on a consent platform, with settings for each region your visitors come from.
  4. Google Consent Mode v2 is connected for GA4, Google Ads and Meta tags, so non-essential tags wait for consent.
  5. We draft your privacy notice and cookie notice from your questionnaire answers and add a contact route for privacy requests.
  6. Tags are tested before and after consent in each region setting, and you get a test report and one revision round.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • Website and Google Tag Manager access by invite, or a key you control.
  • Answers to our short data questionnaire.
  • The regions your visitors come from.
  • A lawyer or privacy adviser who approves the notices.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

What you receive at handover

  • A consent banner with regional settings
  • Google Consent Mode v2 for GA4, Google Ads and Meta tags
  • Privacy notice and cookie notice drafts for your lawyer to approve
  • A contact route for privacy requests

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Lets visitors' choices actually control your tags
  • Gives your lawyer a solid starting draft instead of a blank page
  • Shows evidence of how consent works on your site
Tags before consent
Check the test report for any non-essential tag firing before a visitor chooses.
Consent rate
Review the share of visitors who accept, decline or customize in your consent platform's dashboard.
Consent signals in GA4
Check GA4's consent settings to confirm consent signals arrive for each region.

Before you start: Note which tags fire on your current site before any choice, and whether a privacy notice already exists.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

Free to ~$15/month for a consent platform, depending on traffic, billed by its maker. Smaller sites often fit a free tier. We check your traffic at intake and recommend a plan before anything is bought.

Custom requirements

Add a note at checkout if you need something specific. If it fits within the Scope Card it is simply included. If it goes beyond it, you get a written Change Quote within two working days, and that work starts only once you accept it, with its time added to your delivery date.

Keep it running

The banner and consent settings are looked after with the rest of your site. On WordPress and WooCommerce builds, webcare24, our WordPress care brand, handles updates and fixes after the support period. On Shopify, Webflow, Framer, HubSpot and custom builds, optional Upmark maintenance after the support period can cover it. When you add new tags or tools, rescan and update the notices.

Questions about this product

Does the cookie consent setup include legal advice?

No. We set up the banner and tags and prepare notice drafts from your questionnaire answers, but we do not give legal advice. Your lawyer or privacy adviser reviews the drafts, decides what they must say for your business and approves them. Rules differ by region and by what you do with data, so that judgement stays with them.

What is Google Consent Mode v2 and why set it up?

It is Google's way of passing each visitor's consent choice to GA4 and Google Ads. When someone declines, Google tags adjust what they collect, and when someone agrees, they work in full. If you use Google Ads or GA4 with visitors in the UK or EU, Google's own policies make these signals important. Your lawyer confirms what applies to you.

Can the cookie banner behave differently for UK, EU, US, Australian and Gulf visitors?

Yes. The banner is set up with regional settings, so visitors from different places can see different choices and defaults. You tell us where your visitors come from, and your lawyer confirms what each region needs. We then test tags before and after consent in each region setting and record the results in the test report.

How much does a cookie consent platform cost each month?

Free to ~$15/month for a consent platform, depending on traffic, billed by its maker. Many small and medium sites fit a free or low tier. Larger sites with more visitors or pages may need a paid plan. We check your traffic at intake and recommend a plan, and the subscription stays in your own account.

Which tags does the cookie consent add-on connect?

Up to 3 tags: usually GA4, Google Ads and the Meta pixel, set up through Google Tag Manager. Each one is connected so it waits for consent where your settings require it. If you run more tags, such as other ad platforms or chat tools, note them at checkout and we send a written Change Quote.

How do you show that tags are held back before visitors agree?

With a test report. We load your site in each region setting, check which tags fire before anyone clicks the banner, then accept and decline and check again. The report records what fired at each step. It gives your team and your lawyer evidence that the banner controls the tags rather than only appearing on screen.

Who approves the privacy notice and cookie notice drafts?

Your lawyer or privacy adviser. We write both drafts from your answers to our data questionnaire and the cookie scan results. You pass them to your lawyer, who edits and approves the final wording. Once approved, the notices can go live with your site. We do not publish them as final without that approval.

Which website builds can include Cookie Consent and Privacy Setup?

Most of our website and store builds. These include WordPress Business Website, Corporate Website, WooCommerce Store Build, Shopify Store Build, Webflow Website Build, Framer Website Build, HubSpot CMS Website Build, Custom Website Build, Landing Page Pack and Website Redesign. Add it in the same order as your build, so consent is in place at launch.

Make your cookie banner actually do its job

Add Cookie Consent and Privacy Setup to your build for a tested consent banner, Google Consent Mode v2 on up to 3 tags and notice drafts ready for your lawyer.
