Multi-Currency Store Setup

Shoppers in the UK, Europe, Australia and the Gulf see prices in their own currency and pay in it at checkout.

A shopper in London or Dubai who sees only US dollars has to work out the real cost before buying. Multi-Currency Store Setup adds up to 5 currencies to your Shopify or WooCommerce store build. The store picks a currency from the visitor's location, with a switcher to change it. Prices are converted or set by hand, rounded neatly and tested at checkout.

  • Up to five currencies, such as GBP, EUR, AUD and AED
  • Currency picked by location, with a manual switcher
  • Checkout tested in every currency before launch

What it is

Multi-Currency Store Setup adds up to 5 local currencies, such as USD, GBP, EUR, AUD and AED, to a Shopify or WooCommerce store build from Upmark Labs. We set up Shopify Markets or a multi-currency plugin, show currency by visitor location with a manual switcher, set rounding rules and test checkout in every currency.

Why businesses buy it

Showing one currency to the world is simple, but it asks foreign shoppers to do sums before they buy. Converting prices badly is not much better. Shoppers meet odd amounts, a checkout in a different currency or a payment method that fails. This add-on sets up currencies properly on the same store as your build. You choose whether prices convert automatically or are fixed per market. Rounding rules keep prices tidy, and payment methods are checked for each currency. Every currency is tested through checkout before launch, so the price a shopper sees is the price they pay.

Problems this solves

Foreign shoppers must work out prices in another currency

Up to five currencies are added, and the store shows each visitor theirs based on location. A switcher lets them change it.

Converted prices look odd and unpolished

Rounding rules keep converted prices tidy. Where exact amounts matter, you set fixed prices by hand for that market instead.

Checkout fails or changes currency at the last step

Payment methods are checked for each currency, and checkout is tested in every one before the store goes live.

A good fit if

You sell to shoppers who pay in different currencies, such as GBP, EUR, AUD or AED.
Up to five currencies cover the markets you serve.
You know whether prices should convert automatically or be set by hand in some markets.
You are buying Shopify Store Build, WooCommerce Store Build or Store Migration from us.

Not the right fit if

You also need tax charged correctly in each country. Add VAT and GST Store Setup alongside this.
You are launching a new Shopify store for several countries at once. See the Global Store Launch Bundle, which includes this add-on.
You want each market to find your store in local search. See International SEO Setup.
Shoppers in a new market need the store in their language too. See Extra Language.

How it works

  1. At intake you share store and payment provider access, the currencies you want and whether prices convert or are fixed per market.
  2. We set up Shopify Markets or a WooCommerce multi-currency plugin on the same store as your build.
  3. Up to five currencies are added, with prices converted automatically or set by hand, and rounding rules so amounts look tidy.
  4. Currency is chosen from the visitor's location, and a currency switcher lets shoppers change it.
  5. Payment methods are checked for each currency and checkout is tested in every one. One revision round follows, then you get short setup notes.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • Store admin access by invite or a key you control, shared with the parent build.
  • Payment provider access, shared by invite.
  • The currencies you want, and whether each market's prices are converted or fixed.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Lets shoppers abroad understand prices at a glance
  • Helps avoid failed or confusing payments at checkout
Orders by currency
Count orders placed in each currency in your store reports month by month.
Abandoned checkouts by country
Compare abandoned checkouts by country before and after the currencies go live.
Conversion fees
Review the conversion fees on your payment provider statements each month.

Before you start: Note current orders and abandoned checkouts from each country before the new currencies go live.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

Running costs are any paid multi-currency app, billed by its maker, plus your payment provider's conversion fees. We confirm at intake whether your store needs a paid app or plugin, and which plan fits, before anything is bought.

Custom requirements

Add a note at checkout if you need something specific. If it fits within the Scope Card it is simply included. If it goes beyond it, you get a written Change Quote within two working days, and that work starts only once you accept it, with its time added to your delivery date.

Keep it running

Exchange rates move, so fixed prices may need a review from time to time. Automatic conversion follows the rates your platform or plugin uses. On WooCommerce Store Build, webcare24, our WordPress care brand, looks after the store and its plugins after the support period. On Shopify Store Build and Store Migration, the optional monthly maintenance covers it.

Questions about this product

Which currencies can a multi-currency store show?

Any five that your platform and payment provider support. A common set is USD, GBP, EUR, AUD and AED, covering the US, the UK, Europe, Australia and the Gulf. You pick the list at intake. If you need more than five, note it at checkout and we send a written Change Quote for the extra work.

Should store prices convert automatically or be set by hand for each currency?

It depends on your margins and how you price. Automatic conversion keeps prices in step with exchange rates and needs little upkeep. Prices set by hand let you choose round, local-looking amounts, but someone must review them when costs change. You decide at intake, market by market.

Do shoppers pay in their own currency or just see it?

They pay in it, where your payment provider supports that currency. Payment methods are checked for each currency, and checkout is tested in every one before launch. If your provider cannot take a currency, we tell you before launch. Adding a new payment provider is outside this add-on and can be quoted through a Change Quote.

Who pays the currency conversion fees on foreign orders?

You do, through your payment provider. Conversion fees are set and billed by the provider, not by us, and they are not included in this add-on. Fees differ by provider and plan, so check yours before launch. Any paid multi-currency app is also billed to you directly by its maker.

Can you set up a separate store for each country instead?

Not in this add-on. Multi-Currency Store Setup adds currencies to one store, which is simpler to run for most brands. Separate stores per country are a different project, with their own catalogs and settings. If you need them, add a note at checkout and we send a written Change Quote.

Does Multi-Currency Store Setup handle VAT and GST too?

No. Currencies and tax are set up separately. VAT and GST Store Setup sets tax rates for up to 10 countries or regions, as your accountant confirms, with price display and invoices to match. Many stores selling abroad need both. The Global Store Launch Bundle includes both, with a Shopify Store Build and International SEO Setup.

How does the store know which currency to show a visitor?

It uses the visitor's location. A shopper in Sydney sees Australian dollars and one in Paris sees euros, as long as both currencies are on your list. A currency switcher lets anyone change it by hand, for example a traveller, or a buyer paying from a company account in another country.

Let every shopper see their own price.

Add Multi-Currency Store Setup and launch with up to 5 currencies, prices shown by location and checkout tested in each one.
