AI Inbound Call Agent for Vonage

A Vonage number answered by an AI agent that finishes each defined call type and keeps the recording in Vonage.

Your numbers sit in Vonage and you want them to stay there. This agent connects through a Vonage application you own, answers one number and runs up to five defined call types, such as service requests and order checks, through to a finish. Recordings stay in Vonage next to the rest, and you can remove access from your account at any time.

  • Answers one Vonage number with up to five call types
  • Stores recordings of AI-handled calls in your Vonage account
  • Runs through an application you control and can revoke

What it is

AI Inbound Call Agent for Vonage connects to your Vonage account through an application you control, answers one Vonage number and runs up to five defined call types to a finish. Voice calls, numbers and recordings sync both ways on a documented mapping, alongside one more system such as a CRM.

Why businesses buy it

When inbound calls outgrow the team, the same few questions eat hours and the urgent calls wait. Many voice tools ask you to move numbers or keep recordings in their storage. This edition stays inside Vonage. It finishes the repeatable calls, passes the rest to a person, and keeps the recording where your team expects it. Access runs through an application you created, so control never leaves you. The Scope Card fixes the call types, mapping and second system before you pay, so there are no surprises later.

Problems this solves

Order and dispatch calls on your Vonage line follow the same steps

The agent answers one Vonage number and runs up to five defined call types through to a finish. Staff are freed from calls that never vary.

Call results in Vonage never reach the CRM

Voice calls, numbers and recordings sync both ways on a documented mapping. One more system, such as your CRM, is connected so each call's outcome is recorded there as well.

Nobody understands the Vonage setup a developer built years ago

The connection runs through a Vonage application you control, with a documented mapping. The admin guide and written handover report explain how it works for whoever looks after it.

Customers queue for answers a well-built call flow could give

Up to fifty documents or an FAQ set feed the answers for each call type. Customers can finish their request on the call, and transfers happen only when needed.

A good fit if

Your numbers are already provisioned in a Vonage account, and you want to keep them there.
Recordings of AI-handled calls should be stored in Vonage, next to the rest of your call recordings.
Your inbound calls split into a handful of clear types, such as service requests and order checks, that each need different questions.
Someone can create a Vonage application, share its application ID and private key, and approve a written field mapping.

Not the right fit if

You want the AI to text callers as well as talk to them. The Vonage mapping covers voice; add the SMS Channel Add-on, or see AI Inbound Call Agent for Twilio, whose mapping includes SMS.
Your calls are mainly about bookings, opening hours and transfers. See AI Voice Receptionist for Vonage.
You need the agent to place calls, such as reminders or follow-ups. See AI Outbound Calling Agent.
You need more than five call types on the line. Add a note at checkout and a Change Quote prices the extra flows first.

How it works

  1. Access comes through a Vonage application. You create it, share the application ID and private key, and the number the agent answers is linked to it.
  2. With your Vonage admin, we agree in writing what the agent may read and update for voice calls, numbers and recordings, and document that mapping.
  3. Callers hear your greeting and disclosure, then the agent identifies which of the five defined call types they need.
  4. Each call type follows its own script: the questions to ask, the data to check in your one other system, and the answer or action that ends it.
  5. If the caller asks for a person or the agent is unsure, it transfers to the number set for that call type, or takes a message.
  6. Afterwards the call's details are updated in Vonage on the agreed mapping, the recording is kept there, and a summary goes to the second system.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • A Vonage application ID and its private key.
  • Your Vonage admin to approve the written field mapping.
  • The Vonage number to answer, or details of a number you plan to port or forward.
  • A plain description of each call type, with its script and FAQs.
  • Transfer numbers and opening hours.
  • Your recording disclosure wording and preferred voice.
  • Access to one more system, such as your CRM, and one approver for decisions.
  • An API key for your own AI model account (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini), created for this build with a spending limit.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

What you receive at handover

  • The AI Inbound Call Agent live on one Vonage number
  • A Vonage connection through an application you control, syncing calls, numbers and recordings on a documented mapping
  • Up to five configured call types and a connection to one more system, such as your CRM
  • Access set up through keys you control, with none sent by email
  • A test report on sandbox or test records, an admin guide and a written handover report
  • 30 days of post-launch support

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Can take repetitive call types off your team's list.
  • Helps call outcomes reach your CRM without retyping.
  • Makes the Vonage setup understandable to your own staff.
Calls finished by the agent
Count completed calls from Vonage records each month, broken down by call type.
Calls with an outcome in the CRM
Compare Vonage call counts with matching CRM entries each month.
Average wait before answer
Use your Vonage call records. Compare the four weeks before launch with the four weeks after.

Before you start: Export four weeks of Vonage call records, including wait times. Check how many recent calls have an outcome recorded in the CRM.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

Once the one-time build is done, running costs are billed to your own accounts. Expect roughly $0.13 to $0.31 per call minute all in, covering the voice platform, AI model and telephony, plus rental for the number. Vonage bills its share to you directly.

AI usage during build and testing is charged the same way, so no provider account sits in our name.

Questions about this product

Why does the Vonage edition use an application ID and private key?

That is how a Vonage application authenticates. You create the application, link the number to it and share the ID and key during intake, never by email. Because access runs through an application you own, you can see what it covers and remove it from your Vonage account whenever you choose.

Can AI Inbound Call Agent for Vonage send text messages?

Not within the Vonage mapping, which covers voice calls, numbers and recordings. If you want the agent to text callers or hold text conversations, the SMS Channel Add-on adds that channel alongside this build. If texting is central to your calls, AI Inbound Call Agent for Twilio includes SMS in its own mapping and may suit your line better.

Where do recordings from the Vonage agent end up?

In your Vonage account, with the call they belong to, on the field mapping agreed at setup. Nothing is copied into an Upmark system. If your team needs to search recordings by topic or caller, the Call Recording Archive and Search add-on, $1,500, adds that on top of them.

How quickly can the Vonage inbound agent go live?

The delivery panel on this page shows the fixed timeline and the faster options. The clock starts once intake is complete and access is verified. Intake is due within 72 hours of ordering, and late items push the date back, so create the Vonage application, link the number and have the application ID and private key ready before you order.

What counts as one of the five call types on the Vonage line?

A distinct reason people call, with its own questions and finish, such as an order check or a service request. Two call types can share an FAQ set but end differently. During intake we turn your descriptions into five flows, and anything beyond that is quoted before work begins.

Is Vonage call usage part of the inbound agent's build price?

No. Vonage charges you directly for its part of each call, and all in, with the AI model and voice platform, minutes run roughly $0.13 to $0.31 each, plus number rental. Upmark takes nothing per call or per minute. The build price in the panel on this page pays for the setup work, testing and handoff only.
