Cost and Usage Alerts

You hear about rising AI spend or unusual usage the day it starts, not when the monthly invoice lands.

AI usage bills can creep up quietly, and many businesses only notice when the monthly invoice arrives. This add-on watches the spend and usage of the product you already run and warns you when either crosses a limit you set, or jumps against its normal pattern. Alerts arrive by email or team chat, with the figures that triggered them.

  • Warns you before AI spend reaches your budget
  • Flags unusual usage spikes as they happen
  • Sends alerts to email or team chat with the figures

What it is

Cost and Usage Alerts is an add-on that watches the spend and usage of one existing Upmark Labs product. It warns you when either crosses a limit you set, by email or team chat, with the figures that triggered it. An early warning comes before each limit. It is the single-product version of AI Cost Monitoring.

Why businesses buy it

A runaway loop, a spam attack on your chat or a sudden traffic spike can burn through a month of usage very quickly. Provider dashboards rarely alert at the level of a single product, and checking them by hand gets forgotten. Alerts give you time to act while the cost is still small. The written scope covers the limits, an early warning level, spike detection, recipients and tests with the parent product, so you hear about problems the day they start.

Problems this solves

AI usage costs climb and nobody notices until the bill arrives

Cost and Usage Alerts watches spend and usage and warns you when either crosses a limit you set. Alerts go to email or your team chat.

An alert at the limit itself is too late to act

An early warning level is set below each limit you choose. Your team gets time to check what is happening and react before the main limit is reached.

Alerts without numbers leave people guessing what went wrong

Each alert arrives with the figures that triggered it, by email or team chat. Whoever receives it can see the spend or usage level straight away and decide what to do.

A good fit if

Your AI provider bills by usage, and a busy week or a fault could run the bill up before anyone looks.
Finance wants a warning before a budget is reached, not an explanation afterwards.
You know roughly what a normal day or month of usage looks like for your product.
The product is an Upmark Labs build, or this add-on is going into the same order.

Not the right fit if

You want AI spend tracked by workflow and team across the company. AI Cost Monitoring is the standalone build.
You want to cut the bill by moving simple tasks to cheaper models. Multi-Model Routing Add-on does that.
You want charts of performance and outcomes, not just spend warnings. Analytics Dashboard Add-on adds them.
You want a regular written summary for leadership. Executive Reporting Pack sends one.

How it works

  1. Sources are connected. We read usage from the product's own logs and, where the provider allows it, from your AI provider account.
  2. Limits are set. You choose daily and monthly thresholds, plus a warning level before each one is reached.
  3. Unusual spikes are flagged. A sudden jump against your normal pattern triggers an alert even if no limit has been reached yet.
  4. Alerts are delivered. Each one goes to the email addresses or team chat channel you name, with the numbers behind it.
  5. Alerts are tested with the parent product, then you review them with one revision round and get a written walkthrough.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • The order reference of the product to watch

Before you start: Record your last three monthly bills and the budget you expected. Note any past surprises.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

Watching usage adds almost nothing to your running costs. Alerts run inside the parent product's existing setup, and any small hosting cost stays in your own accounts.

Custom requirements

Automatically pausing the product when a limit is hit, or splitting costs by customer or department, needs extra design. Put it in the checkout note and a written Change Quote arrives. Larger or bespoke projects go through the Custom AI request form instead.

Keep it running

As usage grows, thresholds need raising. Changing a limit or a recipient is a quick task within the parent product's maintenance, which grows in line with the add-on's price.

Adds $75/mo to maintenance

Covered by the main product's maintenance, which grows by this amount.

Questions about this product

Where do the cost and usage alerts arrive?

By email or in a team chat channel, whichever you name at intake. You can send different alerts to different people, for example early warnings to the product owner and budget breaches to finance. Each alert includes the figures that triggered it, so nobody has to log in to understand it.

Can the alerts stop the product when a budget is hit?

Not as part of this add-on. It warns; it does not switch anything off, because stopping a customer-facing product is a business decision. If you want an automatic pause at a hard limit, describe it in the custom requirements note and we quote it separately.

How does it spot unusual usage?

It compares current usage with the product's normal pattern. A sudden jump, such as a loop sending the same request repeatedly, triggers an alert even when you are still under budget. We set the sensitivity with you during intake and check it with test spikes before launch.

Are the cost figures exact?

They are as exact as the data your provider exposes. Some providers report usage with a delay, and some only report totals. We tell you during intake what your provider makes available, and the alerts show where figures are estimates rather than billed amounts.

Can usage alerts be set up on a product that is already live?

Yes, and that is often the best time, because we can set limits from real usage rather than estimates. The alerts can also be ordered with a new Upmark Labs product. You choose the delivery speed at checkout, and each speed has a fixed price and date shown before you pay.

Do alerts watch more than the AI model bill?

They watch what the product can measure: model usage, and request or conversation volume handled by the parent product. Other costs, such as telephony minutes or platform seats, are only included if that provider exposes usage data we can read. We confirm what is covered at intake.

How do these alerts differ from AI Cost Monitoring?

The alerts watch one existing Upmark Labs product and warn you when its spend or usage crosses your limits. AI Cost Monitoring is a standalone build that tracks spend across every AI account you run. It breaks spend down by provider, model and workflow for finance and engineering. Choose the alerts for one product, and the full build for company-wide visibility.

No more surprises on the AI invoice.

Add Cost and Usage Alerts and your team is warned when spend nears a limit or usage jumps, with the numbers in every alert.
